Description

So often china or pottery pieces need to be part of a grouping to have any impact, but this platter is so striking it stands on its own as a mid century modern design statement. It was made in Japan during the 1945-1952 Allied occupation. It was handcrafted and is so marked in brown script on the reverse, along with OCCUPIED JAPAN and BAMBOO, which is obviously the pattern name. In the center of those marks is the symbol for UCAGCO, a superimposed U over a C over a G. UCAGCO is an acronym for United China and Glass Company, which was a distributor of dinnerware and glassware from Japan with offices in New Orleans and New York.
