Arthur Wood

Horse Head Handle Arthur Wood English Earthenware Pitcher

White Horse Pitcher Handle right
Item Name
English Earthenware White Pitcher

This is a fine Staffordshire pitcher made by Arthur Wood, an earthenware manufacturer in Longton, Stoke-On-Trent, England. The impressed marks on the bottom are “Wood” and “Made in England” (pictured in photograph #4 somewhat faintly.) Arthur Wood was the sole owner in 1904; in 1928, his son joined him and the business name was changed to Arthur Wood and Son Ltd.

This pitcher, made of a creamy white clay with a glossy clear glaze on all but the foot ring, has raised decorations with an equestrian theme: men on horseback are riding around the pitcher and the thumb rest is a large horse head. It’s an impressive piece, standing 10 inches tall, measuring 8 1/4 inches from the tip of the handle to the tip of the spout and weighing 2 1/2 pounds. The condition is excellent, with the expected overall fine crazing and no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. It’s immaculate inside and out.

This Staffordshire pitcher has great style and flair for any room in your home.
