For the cat lover, a charming porcelain accent lamp with a bit of modern Asian flair. The 2/4 inch high stepped, round black wooden base supports the full bodied cat that stands 8 inches high. Sitting in a classic pose, with front paws demurely together, head to one side and tail wrapped around, the cat is made of glossy white porcelain, well-detailed down to the whiskers. The new matte black cloth uno shade sits on the socket that’s attached to the brass rod behind the cat. The shade is 7 inches tall with the overall height of the lamp 16 1/2 inches. Description

This mid 20th century TV lamp has all the bells and whistles: lots of large, perfect shells on an “ocean waves” plaster base, an abalone shell backdrop and a painted chalkware Indian brave in the seashell forest. In the 1950’s, more and more homes had televisions, and since people watched screens in dark movie theatres, it was thought that TV’s should be watched the same way, to avoid eye strain or even eye damage. The postwar creativity in home decor was nowhere better expressed than in the designs of these lamps that decorated one of the new possessions Americans were most proud of.

Photograph #1 shows the lamp unlit; photos #2 and #5 show it lit with the low wattage, night light bulb (included). This bulb is clear; you can easily change it out to a colored one if you prefer. Rather than lots of little bitty shells, there are eleven large shells in front that include a rooster tail conch, a tiger cowrie and an areola babylon. The abalone shell is a beauty, standing 7 inches tall and 6 3/4 inches across at the widest point. The pearly surface on the inside does a wonderful job of reflecting and amplifying the light. The length of cord extending from the lamp is about 30 inches; both it and the plug are in fine condition and you can use an extension cord to reach further if needed. The oval base is 7 3/4 inches by 6 3/4 inches and about 1 inch thick; the overall height of the lamp is 8 inches and it weighs a little under 4 pounds. It’s in amazing condition–no chips, no cracks, no dings. It’s a terrific accent lamp and a guaranteed conversation starter.

FYI: The vintage lamps we sell are all in working order when we ship them to you, but we do recommend that you have them checked out for long-term use by a licensed electrician, since we are not electrical experts.
